Choosing Your First Dance and Parent Dance Songs

Your first dance is one of the most photographed moments of the night. The right song should feel personal, not like something you picked off a list. Here's how to narrow it down.

Start with your story. Think about the song from your first date, a road trip or the concert you went to together. A song with a memory behind it almost always beats the most popular pick.

Listen to the lyrics all the way through. Some songs that sound romantic are actually about breakups. Read the words before you commit.

Keep it to about two to three minutes. Most full songs run longer than you'd think, and guests start to fidget. We can fade the song out at a natural spot so it ends on a high note.

Pick something you're comfortable dancing to. Slow and simple works for most couples. If you want a surprise mash-up or a choreographed routine, tell us early so we can prepare the edit.

For parent dances: Many couples combine the father-daughter and mother-son dances into one song. It saves time, and it's a sweet moment for both families. Halfway through, we can invite other couples to join.

Not sure where to start? Bring a shortlist to your planning meeting and we'll help you choose.
